Tungsten carbide

Tungsten carbide is an inorganic chemical compound which contains equal numbers of tungsten and carbon atoms. It is sometimes colloquially referred to as cemented carbide or as simply “carbide.”

In its most basic form, it is a fine gray powder, but it can be pressed and formed into shapes for use in industrial machinery, tools, abrasives, as well as jewelry.

Cemented carbide, often referred to as the hardest metal, has a compressive strength much greater than any metal or alloy, including steel. Because it is highly resistant to abrasion, it is ideal for use in a variety of wear applications.

Traditionally, cemented carbide components have been used in metalworking applications where tooling stresses are great. However, there are numerous non-metal uses, such as crushing/pulverizing stone, where cemented carbide’s strength and wear characteristics offer a cost-effective solution.

Cemented carbide is used wherever, high resistance to wear is demanded, for example, in drilling, milling, trenching and cutting. We offer an extensive programme which includes the most varied dimensions and shapes and which is constantly being expanded by new, innovative solutions. We also manufacture cemented carbide in special shapes for particular applications and, if desired,
